OVERVIEW
In the spring of 2024, DJI unveiled the Avata 2, their flagship FPV drone designed to push the limits of immersive flight and build off it’s predecessor – the original Avata. As part of the global launch, DJI partnered with select creators to put the drone to the test and craft cinematic films that showcased its full potential before release.

OBJECTIVE
The goal was to capture the thrill and precision of FPV flight, while highlighting the Avata 2’s new and improved stability, responsiveness, and image quality in real-world conditions.

CREATIVE APPROACH
Chris teamed up with pro FPV pilot and close friend Josh Turner to do exactly that. Over the course of ten days, the duo island-hopped across the Canary Islands — from Tenerife to La Palma to Lanzarote — chasing fast subjects, immense scale, and visceral light through some of the most surreal terrain on earth. Towering volcanoes, black-sand beaches, pine forests above the clouds, and razor-sharp ridgelines became the backdrop for the Avata 2’s first flights. While Josh piloted the Avata 2, Chris captured handheld and aerial B-roll, air-to-air drone footage, and the behind-the-scenes moments that told the story of the drone in action. He also spearheaded the color grade and edit, shaping the video into a fast-paced, cinematic montage that showcases both the raw power of the Avata 2 and the otherworldly beauty of the Canary Islands — a perfect balance of technology, adventure, and artistry.
